Dairy Technology Student of the Year
Congratulations to Chris Hay, Arla Foods colleague at our Tuxford & Tebbutt creamery, who has won the inaugural Dairy Technology Student of the Year competition. Chris was presented with the award at the Nantwich International Cheese Show.
The nationwide competition from the Society of Dairy Technologists can be entered by any student within the dairy industry. Chris submitted a project he has been working on at the Arla Tuxford & Tebbutt creamery. The project objective was to understand the effect of increased humidity on Stilton cheese, leading to increased moisture control and an annual payback of several hundred thousand pounds per annum. The project included his recommendation to the business which will result in a return of investment within two years.
Chris is part of the award-winning Eden programme, developed by the UK dairy industry driven and supported by leading dairy companies including Arla, to produce the next generation of world-class talent. The Eden Dairy Technologist Programme covers the technology, the chemistry, the processes, the machinery and the management procedures surrounding dairy, leading to a Foundation Degree in Dairy Technology.
