Arla Savours The Taste of Success
2016 has been a phenomenal year in many ways for Arla Cheese. And if our ever-expanding awards cabinet is anything to go by, that’s especially true when it comes to winning accolades. In fact, our traditional British creameries picked up over 200 awards in eight of the most prestigious shows in the cheesemakers’ calendar this year.
The golden touch for Wales
Our Llandyrnog creamery did the Principality proud by clinching the Supreme Championship Award for their Extra Mature Cheddar at the Royal Cheshire County Show. Not content with that, the Welsh creamery also picked up gold and silver medals for their Mild Cheddar plus silver for their mature version.
West Country Winners
The Taw Valley Creamery in deepest Devon also enjoyed a vintage year, claiming the Champion award at the Nantwich International Cheese Awards for their delectable Double Gloucester. This feat has never before been achieved by a UK cheese company, so it was very much a historic victory.
The famous Devon creamery also picked up the Danisco Grand Prix award at the British Cheese Awards for their Mature Cheddar – the highest honour in this revered event, often described as ‘the one to win’.
The Best of British
Our Lockerbie creamery flew the flag for Scotland by winning a clutch of medals at the Nantwich International Cheese Awards, whilst our Tuxford & Tebbutt creamery in Melton Mowbray walked away with a number of awards including a gold medal for their Blue Stilton.
World class results
We also excelled in that other celebrated show – the Global Cheese Awards – with an impressive array of wins including golds for Taw Valley, Tuxford & Tebbutt, Lockerbie and Llandyrnog.
All in all, 2016 has been a truly memorable year for the master cheese makers here at Arla. But, never ones to rest on our laurels, we’ll be rolling up our sleeves to ensure we craft even more prize-winning cheese in 2017.
